What is ADAS?

WHAT ARE ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS (ADAS)?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are vehicle technologies that provide safer driving experiences for the vehicle, driver, passenger, and the surrounding environment. ADAS technologies are paving the road to autonomous vehicles which can run full time with only maintenance stops. ADAS' primary goal is to reduce accidents and save lives.

ADAS helps with functions like Automatic Emergency Brake, Forward and Rear Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Night Vision System, Blind Spot Detection, Around View Monitoring, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Parking Assist. When ADAS detects what could be a hazardous situation, the vehicle will either warn the driver or it make actions necessary to stop a collision. If the sensors and cameras that are used for these functions are not calibrated or aligned properly, the ADAS system will fail to operate correctly.

WHAT AFFECTS TO ADAS?

In addition to windshield replacements, new tires, new headlights and brake work can also throw off ADAS system calibration. If you replace a bumper or add any aftermarket vehicle accessories, calibration may be necessary. Winter or muddy driving conditions can temporarily affect these systems, as well, when debris covers sensors on bumpers, car panels or windshields.
